Bite Analysis

A bite analysis looks closely at how your upper and lower teeth meet, how your jaw joints function, and how the muscles of the face and jaw work together during everyday movements like chewing, speaking, and swallowing. In the office, this evaluation is part of a broader, physiologic approach to care led by Dr. Jeremy Montrose, D.M.D., whose clinical focus includes TMJ-related conditions and airway- and face-focused orthodontics.

What a Bite Analysis Looks At

  • Jaw Alignment — how the upper and lower jaw relate to each other at rest and during function.
  • Tooth Contact — where and how teeth meet, and whether uneven contact may contribute to strain.
  • Joint and Muscle Function — how the temporomandibular joints and surrounding muscles move and respond.

Supporting Technology

When a more detailed view is needed, CBCT (Cone Beam CT) imaging can provide a three-dimensional look at jaw and joint structure, while digital X-rays offer clear diagnostic images with reduced radiation exposure. Both help inform a more complete picture of bite-related findings.

Related Areas of Care

  • TMJ Evaluation and Treatment — for concerns connected to jaw joint function.
  • Early Orthodontic Intervention — for developing bites in children.
  • Orthodontics for Adults — for bite correction later in life.
