Bite Analysis

A bite analysis looks at how the upper and lower teeth, jaw joints, and surrounding muscles work together. Because an uneven or strained bite can contribute to jaw joint discomfort, headaches, or wear on the teeth, a thorough evaluation helps identify where imbalances originate before any treatment is planned.

What the Evaluation Covers

  • Jaw Joint Function — how the temporomandibular joints move and align during opening, closing, and chewing.
  • Tooth Contact Patterns — where teeth meet unevenly, which can place extra stress on certain areas.
  • Muscle and Airway Considerations — reviewing whether jaw position or muscle tension relates to breathing or sleep-disordered breathing concerns.

Imaging That Supports Bite Analysis

  • CBCT (Cone Beam CT) Imaging — provides a detailed three-dimensional view of the jaw, joint, and airway structures.
  • Digital X-Rays — offer clear diagnostic images of the teeth and supporting structures with reduced radiation exposure.

Dr. Jeremy Montrose, D.M.D., brings a physiologic, airway- and TMJ-focused approach to bite evaluation, drawing on his training in TMD and orofacial pain, functional orthodontics, and craniofacial function to help patients understand what their bite may be telling them about their overall oral health.
