Intraoral Scanners
Intraoral Scanners
An intraoral scanner is a small handheld device that captures a detailed digital image of the teeth, gums, and bite in just a few minutes, without the need for the trays and putty used in traditional impressions. At Jeremy Montrose, DMD, digital scanning supports the planning of orthodontic and functional treatment, giving a clear, precise picture of how the teeth and jaws fit together.
Where Digital Scanning Fits Into Care
- Orthodontic Planning — Digital scans help map out treatment with traditional braces, clear aligners, and custom 3D printed braces.
- Appliance Fabrication — Accurate scans support the design of expansion appliances, functional appliances, and orthopedic growth and remodeling appliances.
- Bite Analysis — A digital model of the bite adds useful detail alongside clinical evaluation.
Working Alongside Other Imaging
Digital scans are often used together with CBCT (Cone Beam CT) imaging, which gives Dr. Jeremy Montrose, D.M.D., a three-dimensional view of the jaw, joint, and airway. Combining surface detail from the scanner with the deeper structural view from CBCT helps inform treatment planning for orthodontic, TMJ, and airway-focused care.
